The Annual Claude McKay Scholarship Awards
The Jamaican Association of Maryland is proud of the success of “The Claude McKay Scholarship” program, which recognizes and award book scholarships to students in their transition from high School to College.
25 years ago the organization selected the life and achievements of Festus Claudius “Claude” McKay a Jamaican writer and poet as an inspiration to the Organization to begin the Claude McKay Scholarship Awards. The program has been very successful and is the premier charity initiative for the organization. At the organization’s annual Anniversary and Scholarship Awards Banquet scholarships are presented to selected young individuals that demonstrated their commitment to higher education and good character.
Over 75 scholarships have been awarded to young women and men on their way to higher education, 9 students were awarded scholarships in 2016.
We thank individuals that have consistently contributed to this initiative and participated in our fundraisers which allow us to continue recognizing young adults in our community.
Our goal is to increase the number of scholarships and awarded annually.
