The Jamaican Independence Ball

JAM Celebrates Jamaican Independence:

The Jamaican Association of Maryland (JAM) has hosted the Annual Jamaican Independence Gala since 1989, celebrating the anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence. The prestigious Marcus Garvey Award is presented to individuals that have attained significant accomplishment professionally and/or have given their service to the community.

The Jamaican Independence Gala is a formal affair and is the single largest fundraiser for JAM. Large portions of the proceeds go towards providing book scholarships to young Jamaicans entering College, the thanksgiving food basket to families needing some assistance during the holidays and other charitable activities.

The Jamaican Independence Church Service – Baltimore

The annual Independence Church service is another significant celebration of Jamaica’s Independence and our rich culture.  Jamaican Association of Maryland in collaboration with the Baltimore Central New Testament Church of God, sponsor an electrifying church service that includes activities featuring Jamaican folklore, including old time Jamaican culture. After which attendees are treated to traditional Jamaican refreshments, including patties, sweet potato pudding, jerk chicken, etc.
